Vanessa Lee is one of the foremost cruise experts in our industry. A high-profile advocate for cruises, Vanessa is president and chief executive of Cruise Strategies, and publisher and CEO of Cruise and Travel Lifestyles. NORWEGIAN HAS A WINNERI LOVE this ship
13 MAY 2013: I just spent several days on the brand new Norwegian Breakaway attending her official christening as well as a two night cruise to good old nowhere, and I want to tell you that this is one fabulous ship. I am extremely impressed with this new class of vessel and there are so many fantastic areas on the ship that it was hard to see them and experience them all on such a short inaugural event.
THE ENJOYMENT OF TRAVELReal experiences bring real pleasure
06 MAY 2013: First of all – before we go any further into this column, I would appreciate any recommendations from you regarding Dubrovnik. I am planning to cruise there later this month and oddly enough I have never yet been. It is one of those places that has been on my list for a long time and I have been supposed to go numerous times over the past years but, for whatever reason, it does not materialize. I am there for a full day and an evening and plan to dine ashore for dinner. So if you have some great thoughts and ideas as to things I MUST do (other than the obvious) or you can recommend a great restaurant then I would be delighted to hear from you.
PLEASING THE PALATECuisine at sea
29 APR 2013: During recent research on cuisine at sea and the development of some different articles on the topic it began to really resonate with me how much cruise lines have really upped their game when it comes to tempting the taste buds of their clients. I would say that the cuisine at sea over the last decade in particular has come a long way and the variety is truly remarkable. But even in the last few years, the ante has been raised again.
BELLS AND WHISTLESInnovation brings new guests to cruising
22 APR 2013: The announcement this week from Royal Caribbean about their new vessel Quantum of the Seas was fantastic – for a number of reasons. Certainly the news about the ship itself and what this innovative brand will bring to yet another generation of cruisers is remarkable. A list of industry firsts (again) which will just ensure more buzz and interest in cruising itself.
TAKE A CAMEL TO DINNERShare your travel experiences
08 APR 2013: I was co-hosting a dinner the other night for 10 marvellous, interesting and very professional travel advisors. Note, I do not call them travel agents because I don’t believe they are agents – they are in fact very special, knowledgeable advisors. At the top of their game as well as committed, focused and dedicated. It was a terrific evening with lots of great stories told – many, quite naturally about their travel experiences and that of their clients.
NEW AND INNOVATIVESpring is here
01 APR 2013: This seems to be the season for all things new and as we watch (or wait for, depending where you live) the annual renewal with the arrival of Spring, I have noted that there have been an inordinate amount of ship christenings recently and we are not done with them yet. Not by a long shot.
GETTING BACK ON TRACKBusy times ahead
25 MAR 2013: I have been somewhat sidelined recently as I had an appointment with a man in a white coat and a rather large knife a few weeks ago. I am pleased to say all went well and I am recovering nicely. I am almost, but not quite, back on track and that is the reason for the lack of columns in recent weeks.
MUSING ABOUT CRUISINGAnd lots more
25 Feb 2013: This column is admittedly somewhat of a mishmash – but there you have it. Lots of things go through my mind on a daily basis as I have a very busy brain and this is a regurgitation of it.
THE INSIDE TRACKWasted opportunities
11 FEB 2013: I am going to continue my theme from last week’s column about the importance of the professional travel advisor in the transaction between the traveller and the end provider as well as the equal importance of that agent’s relationship with the client themselves.
MISSING IN ACTIONThere is nothing like a travel agent
04 FEB 2013: There have been a few instances recently which have given me pause, and food for thought. They all have the same thought process interweaving through them even though the circumstances are quite different. And one of the key factors is that the retail travel professional often appears to be missing in action. This bothers me tremendously.
