24 AUG 2011: Airlines are breathing a sigh of relief as a state Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit challenging the legality of Continental Airlines' "cashless cabin." The judge denied a claim by passenger Michael Rosen that Continental’s policy to take only credit or debit cards for onboard charges was discriminatory.

23 AUG 2011: Forecasters have warned that Tropical Storm Irene could develop into a hurricane before making landfall in the Dominican Republic yesterday. Consequently hurricane warnings have been issued across the Caribbean.
24 AUG 2011: Hurricane Irene has regained Category 2 strength with 100 mph (155 kph) winds as it heads toward the East Coast. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says additional strengthening is expected and Irene could become a major hurricane in the next day or so.
12 AUG 2011: The Statue of Liberty will close for a year at the end of October as it undergoes a $27.25 million renovation that will make the interior safer and more accessible. The renovations are limited to the monument, and Liberty Island will remain open and the statue itself will be “mostly unobstructed.”
09 AUG 2011: Thousands of Coloradans have signed a petition to honour environmentalist and ``Rocky Mountain High'' singer John Denver by naming a peak after him in the central Rockies close to where Denver penned the song.
23 AUG 2011: The Hotel Association of Canada met with Maxime Bernier, the Minister for Small Business and Tourism. In a letter following the meeting, Association president Anthony Pollard, outlined concerns and noted that tourism is a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

First there was the fat cats - Las Vegas brouhaha, then the slapping of taxes on inbound visitors, let’s not even discuss Homeland Security and airports, and now he questions, on the eve of a ten day vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, when last anyone “used a travel agent instead of just going online?” Time for a reality check Mr. President.
