01 MAY 2012: It had to come sooner or later. Jonathan Carroll wants his company back. It really shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Travelzest’s crown jewels (pretty well its only jewels some might say) are iTravel2000 and the Cruise Professionals and those are firmly based here in Canada, which is Carroll country. The UK brands, such as they are, have pretty well been rejigged, watered down, or disposed of.

01 MAY 2012: Egypt's visitor numbers should bounce back to pre-uprising levels this year after a drop caused by Arab Spring unrest, the country's tourism minister suggested somewhat optimistically on Monday. Tourism is a major source of jobs and foreign currency, and Egypt is eager to entice overseas visitors back following the 2011 ouster of longtime president Hosni Mubarak.

01 MAY 2012: With the slogan “Discover this land, like never before” and a catchy anthem “Land of Dreams” by Rosanne Cash, Brand USA rolled out the US’s first-ever comprehensive marketing campaign at Pow Wow last week. But the marketing gurus fell short in one area. When the build up that had many people at the lunch presentation convinced that Rosanne Cash would be there in person to entertain, fizzled without delivering, delegates left the hall somewhat bewildered.
02 MAY 2012: The Board of Airlines Representatives in Canada (BAR Canada) welcomed US Airways as its newest member. "US Airways, being the first US flag carrier to join BAR Canada, brings a unique perspective to the overall mission of the association. We welcome them and will rely on their valuable input", said Cherif Gemayel, chairman of BAR Canada.
02 MAY 2012: The owners of the shuttered Sahara casino on the Las Vegas Strip say they've secured $300 million in funding to redevelop the iconic resort that once hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
02 MAY 2012: Virginia tourism officials are hoping to draw 1 million visitors to the state's website in May, and they're giving away bigger prizes as they get closer to that goal. The sweepstakes begins today and runs through May 31.
02 MAY 2012: It had to happen. In the wake of publicity about lavish meeting costs and profligate spending by the GSA (General Services Administration), the US Congress has voted to cut and cap travel spending by government agencies at 80% of their 2010 level through 2016.
