30 MAR 2012: Here’s one of those situations when perhaps passengers should be fined – heavily. An Alaska Airlines flight scheduled to travel between Long Beach, California, and Vancouver, was forced to land in Portland, Oregon, when the children, aged three and eight, refused to stay in their seats.
30 MAR 2012: On a recent busy afternoon at Kennedy Airport, a sad-eyed beagle was lying on the floor of Terminal 4, oblivious to the chaos of rolling luggage and human activity teeming all around her. There was no prying this dog off the ground - despite the best attempts of Officer Meghan Caffery, her closest companion and partner. Izzy was taking a break.
30 MAR 2012: Cross-border shoppers will be able to bring back more duty-free goods under new budget measures announced Thursday. As of June 1, travellers coming back after 24 hours away will be able to bring in $200 worth of goods free of duty or taxes, an increase from just $50.
02 APR 2012: I have been sleeping around a lot lately. In the nicest possible sense of the expression of course. So much so in fact, that I could probably find an alternate career as a mattress tester. Due to my schedule, where I live, where I work and all my travel, I tend to spend an inordinate amount of time “on the road”. Consequently I stay in a vast number of hotel rooms – of all kinds, shapes and sizes and in a wide variety of locations.
02 APR 2012: Just before ending a phone conversation yesterday with my old boss and friend Richard Branson he threw in an "Oh yes one other thing," line - to the effect that that Virgin was planning to announce a new venture next week that would mark the company's entry into the hairdressing business.
02 APR 2012: Yesterday WestJet announced a new Kargo Kids programme offering guests the opportunity to travel on select child-free flights. Any initial fist pumping “YES”, you may experience at that announcement (and I’m not admitting that was my reaction) will quickly dissipate with the knowledge that the date on the article is April 1st and with the image of the little guest-ets in a bin heading down the baggage belt to the “special VIP” area.
02 APR 2012: Almost a year ago, Brooklyn's Red Hook cruise ship terminal was to become the first East Coast cruise operation with the capability to let ships "plug in" and access power off the grid. Now, almost a year later, ships have still not plugged in to cleaner, shore-side electric power and continue to spew fumes.
02 APR 2012: Having cut loose long-time president and COO Steve Gillick and publications and financial coordinator Ruby Shepard, the CITC seems to be fishing in shallower shoals. They are now recruiting an operations manager who will apparently be responsible for office management, events, public relations and providing “superior customer service.” Curiously lacking in that menu of items are “education,” “professionalism,” or any mention of “professional designations” and isn’t that what it’s all about?
